March Of Dimes

Frank J. DeLuca has been recognized for significant contributions to the March Of Dimes organization, including:

  • Honorary Chair, March for Babies 2009
  • 2009 Volunteer of the Year

The March Of Dimes organization has a mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health: prematurity, birth defects, low birthweight.

The Marion County Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Frank DeLuca. DeLuca has been a staple of strength and stability in this community for decades, and exhibits the same virtues toward March of Dimes. As the 2009 March of Babies chair, his team raised over $20,000 for healthy babies. Frank DeLuca has always gone above and beyond the call of duty by making phone calls, writing letters and recruiting new teams to generate new funds and spread the mission of March of Dimes. Even though these are tough economic times, Frank DeLuca’s motivation and headship has helped the March of Dimes raise $414,000.

Beautiful spring weather and a new location proved a success for the annual March for Babies walk that took place last weekend in Ocala.

“In these tight economic times we were very pleased with the amount we raised,” said Gloria James, community director of the March of Dimes’ Marion County satellite office. “Everything went very well.”

She credits the walk’s success to this year’s honorary chairman Frank DeLuca and the great teamwork among many fundraising teams.”Mr. DeLuca did a fantastic job of rallying the local business leaders and keeping our mission in view of the community,” she said. “Teams were great about sharing ideas of what worked well and didn’t work well. It was great to see everyone working together for a good cause.”

The annual event, which drew about 4,000 walkers to the Baseline Road Trailhead Park, raised approximately $400,000 for the March of Dimes.

The March of Dimes has been blessed with Frank’s generosity through the annual “In Honor of Excellence” Award. This is the first year DeLuca Toyota is participating in March for Babies. DeLuca Toyota has set a goal of $30,000 — $1,000 for each year of business!

“The residents of Ocala and Marion County have always had a heart for giving to others. This has been demonstrated year after year through March for Babies, formerly WalkAmerica. We all know this is an economically challenging time, but the fight to prevent premature birth and infant mortality must continue. Please join me for March for Babies as we raise dollars to improve the health of ALL babies.”
